Why NEMA 14 ?

OpenEVSE is compatible world wide and can use hundreds of plug/outlet combinations. In the North America the NEMA 14 Series is the most common high power outlet due to its widespread use in RV parks. NEMA 6 will work just fine.

Why is NEMA 14 outlet specified? Seems like NEMA 6 should suffice. Is it to support level 1 charging? If I don’t care about level 1. Can I use/wire NEMA 6 instead?
