DC charge voltage

Hi,

According to Chris Howell Electric Vehicle Charging presentation that DC Level 1 (L3) voltage is 200 – 500V DC. If we design and build a DC charger using 200VDC, is it guaranteed it can work for all EVs compliance to J1772 DC Level 1 charging? Or it won't work or there will be DC voltage issues?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards,

Hi, 200 to 500V is simply the chargers capability to provide the battery with its required "constant voltage" part of the charging cycle. Eg a 360v nominal battery would need 410V charger capability so a 200V supply won't suffice. This is why the DC fast use the power line communications as opposed to simple control methods as AC does as the DC fast charger needs to be controlled by the car battery management system as if it were controlling the OBC.
